IMPROVEMENTS

Is there anything that can be improved on any one of our products? Please comment.

One "improvement" I would suggest is a way to fill out your "Warranty Response Card" on your website.

Another Improvement would be to have the PLS5 become the PLS6 with a laser that shot out the back of the unit as well. Obviously, there's a work around to overcome this, but it would be nice to have.

I would highly recommend expanding on your pendulum floor target!! That thing is a HUGE help for acquiring target points on a deck. The only issue is when you run into multiple elevations that are quite different from each other (i.e. more that 2 feet). If you could come up with a method that utilized a laser plummet with a bi-pod or prism pole, that would be huge.

Love the products, though!!

Brian:
Further to my colleague's comments I would say that we will eventually have a way for customers to register warranty cards online. However we will always honor the warrranty of a PLS unit for our customers regardless if we have the card or not.
I don't think we're likely to build a PLS 6 but evntually you will see products with multiple 360 lines for level and plumb that will serve the same purpose.
Finally your point about the layout target for multi levels is understood and I recommend you have a good look at the PLS 90 for layout of plumb for tall applications and stepped foundations.
Let us know how else we can help.

Ed,
I'm a union carpenter in new york . i love the pls 180 . One improvement i would suggest is a automatic lock of the pendulum when the tool is closed

hi love pls products.....i dont care for the newest screw on stands with the solid bottom...the old stand was much better...most construction jobs the floor is dirty....and i have noticed myself having to wipe the floor.of small pebbles to get the solid base stand to sit right...it wasnt much of a problem with the wider u shaped stand

Thank you vaughn2006 for your feedback. We actually have a new floor stand for the PLS 5 that greatly resembles the old floor stand. Please email pro@plslaser.com at the end of the month for more information.

I love your pls180 and pls90. I just got them nabbed from a job site and have replaced the 180. Holding off on replacing the 90 until I need it. I thought, though, how great it would be if you could put the 180 on its back so it could function in much the same way as the 90. It would be a do-all for the sort of work I do. Just a thought.

Future tools will incorporate what we've learned from the PLS 180 and the PLS 90.
Although I doubt there will ever be the holy grail of laser tools where one tool does it all " well" I do think you will see more combinations of points and lines for increased utility.
Stay tuned to PLS.

Dear Anonymous:

Green beam laser tools are indeed useful for the right applications. Outdoors they bring little value for the extra cost because they fade in sunlight almost as quickly as traditional red beams.
Indoors green beam rotaries have proven their worth in larger commercial jobsites where lots of streaming sunlight inhibit the visibilty of red beams.
Green beems burn hot, are sensitive to shock and tend to use lots of battery life. Historically green beams have only been found in high quality rotary laser housings that give them lots of room to breath.
I agree in time smaller laser tools will incorporate green beam technology but I feel there is much work to be done here still. Indeed some of our peers have launched green beam hand held lasers only to find they need more time to perfect the technology.
If you can see a red beam laser in a normal work place just fine do you need to spend a premium to see a green beam only marginally more visible?

hello, my name is Silmar, from Toronto CN, as a framer, we always use pls 3 and pls 180, so at the pls 180 case I cut the bottom to fit both plus its holders and 3 extra batteryes, and I was wondering wy you guys dont make a framers kit, saling both lasers on the same case, an idea that may makes the price fall a little plus you sell 2 lasers instead...I have a picture of the laser case if you are interested here is the link http://www.orkut.com/Main#Album.aspx?uid=6680563357221024156&aid=1236872924

Silmar:

We've been debating " Kits " for a while now and yes the combination of a PLS 3 and PLS 180 makes sense.
But so does a PLS 5 with PLS 180 or how about the PLS 90 with HVR 505 ?
We've got a few ideas on how to address this and I expect you will see some new things from PLS next year. Thanks for your continued support.

I have to second the idea of Silmar ... not sure which laser i want, I have that fear of buyers' remorse. Put them in a kit, offer 10% discount, and there you have it. I'd like an HVR+ PLS5 with the full exterior kit ...

Yes, agreed. Stay tuned...

Well, I think your web presence really needs a rethink and a remake.

I'm trying to find info on the PLS1 and I can't find it in PLS site or here. Only on 3rd party websites...

PLS~Pacific Laser Systems said...

Cookie Monster:
We regret your frustration however the PLS 1 was discontinued almost four years ago. Today, PLS does not offer a distance measurement tool.

I would love to see the features of the PLS 180 with a plumb dot feature on the top and bottom.
For me as an electrician this would cover almost all the bases.

PLS~Pacific Laser Systems said...

We also think this would be a useful combination and I would expect that you will see that and other combinations from PLS in the future.

By Vito;
I'm a great fan of all you make, but looking at my PLS 360 I wonder WHY there is NO lock for the pendulum mechanism? Self-leveling units selling for much less have it and I am scared every time it goes in my truck, or like now, has to be put into my suitcase and be "handled" by those airline people. Are you sure this mechanism is meant for this kind of abuse?

PLS~Pacific Laser Systems said...

Good Afternoon Vito,
Thank you for your kind words about PLS. All of our products demonstrate durability to withstand being shipped to all parts of the world. Before our products are shipped, they go through a rigorous quality procedure to ensure that they are in perfect calibration upon receipt.
The optics are protected by an internal shock frame designed to allow the pendulum to move freely during usage or transportation. Think of the PLS housing and internal shock frame as you do a football helmet. All the protection of the football helmet is in the inside of the helmet while the outside is durable and sleek.
As a result, no lock for the pendulum mechanism is necessary.

I have bought another PLS3. These items are very nick-able and surprise surprise mine went walking again.
Anyway here's my question/suggestion.
I really like the PLS3 but whenever I buy a PLS3 the first thing I do is glue a fibre washer around the on/off switch. This prevents the laser getting switched on in my tool bag thus leaving the batteries dead when I need to use the laser.
Why do you not either recess the switch or raise up the switch surroundings

PLS~Pacific Laser Systems said...

Thank you for your comments. We think this is a valid concern and we are looking at ways to prevent this from happening in the future.
It's comments like yours and from our other job site customers that keep PLS focused on making our products even more useful for the professional contractor.

Dan: Thank you for your inquiry. We have now discontinued the old style PLS 5 and replaced it with a new style PLS 5. It is about half the size of the old PLS 5. It also no longer has the one inch offset. You may send us or any authorized dealer your laser for a replacement new style PLS 5 with accessories for $260.00. Please see our website www.plslaser.com and click on "where to buy." If you have any further questions, let me know.

I have a PLS 505G.Was a debatable choice but decision made when a Red beam Topcon kept getting on reflection from back of a stud. Anyway, I think the barcket needs a lot improvement. Sorry to say but pretty sub standard. Its a patch work of bits. Metal not a good choice as it flexes, even with the aluminium riveted on as an added extra. Plastic, like on topcons brackets are rigid and do not flex. Another thing, has anyone noticed their 505g beam waiver as it spins around. I might be going crazy, but I'm sure mine deviates 4mm. Sent it in, was given the A O K and still does it today. Not hugely impressed. Again I say it, never seen a topcon do that. I know its the cheaper option of the 2, you would still like to know its accurate, even after being serviced at 6 mths old.
Would love some feedback on that cause i'm confused.

We were interested in your comments about the wall bracket because we have had really good feedback abouts its stability.
How are you checking your HVR 505?
I think it would be best if we had another look at this unit to ensure there is no cone error on the unit.
Best to call either Mike or Georgia 800 601 4500 to discuss this unit.
Best regards,
PLS

Hi i just purchased a new HVR505 laser. I just have one concern. I notice that at slow speeds there is a noticebly loud ticking noise. At faster speeds its not as loud. Just wondering if this is normal or if theres something wrong with it. Thanks frank

PLS~Pacific Laser Systems said...

Dear Frank,
Thank you for your inquiry. With all rotary lasers, there is a little bit of noise which is normal. No need to worry, your unit is performing normally. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact PLS at 800-601-4500.

Hello.
I have a HVR1000 and love it.
I've been using the slope feature for laying sewer main lines. A nice feature would be to add a distance measurement from the HVR1000 to the receiver which can then be used to calculate the needed rise over run for slope. Or better yet, include a display of the percentage of slope when going from level to manual slope in either axis.

PLS~Pacific Laser Systems said...

Thank you for the positive feedback and suggestions. Distance measurement to the receiver using a rotary laser would be a challenge, however digital readout on a slope laser is possible and we’re looking to add that feature sometime in 2010.
Happy Holidays from PLS and thank you for your support.

On the PLS90, another side beam would be extremely useful when setting up a T shaped grid. It would save having to extend a L shaped leg.
Same as setting out survey pegs to profiles, for a basic square you could mark off 3 points instead of just 2.Otherwise your products are brilliant.
